CBS Television Studios is currently developing an adaptation of Image Comics’ The Invisible Republic comic.
The television series, which is currently titled Invisible Republic, is set to be CBS’ next major show. The synopsis of the comic-book is listed below:
Arthur McBride’s planetary regime has fallen. His story is over. That is until reporter Croger Babb discovers the journal of Arthur’s cousin, Maia. Inside is the violent, audacious hidden history of the legendary freedom fighter. Erased from the official record, Maia alone knows how dangerous her cousin really is…
Image Comics
The comic is described as “Breaking Bad meets Blade Runner.” The story is set on a distant moon colonized by humans. After the fall of a dictator who had ruled for four decades, disgraced reporter Croger Babbs begins an investigation into the hidden truths behind the dictator’s rise. The narrative is split between Babbs’ adventures during his research and flashbacks depicting the dictator’s early days as experienced by his cousin. The comic is written by Gabriel Hardman and Corinna Bechko.
The sci-fi political thriller series is set to be developed by the teams behind Netflix’s Locke & Key and CBS’ upcoming Kavalier & Clay show.
CBS isn’t new to high-budget sci-fi television series, as they have brought Star Trek back with Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard. The Invisibe Republic series will most likely be released on the CBS All Access streaming service, just like the Star Trek shows.
A release date for the series is currently unknown. It is likely that the sci-fi thriller was set to start production in the next few months. This is unfortunately impossible now due to the coronavirus shutdown.
